Aloha from Hilo, Hawaiʻi!

I've been off the water a long time, but my first home was a caravel named PELE, built by my parents when they were students at the California College of Arts and Crafts and completed in 1958 in the Oakland estuary. Her figurehead is in my profile pic. My mother sold her in the 1960s, and I would love to find out what happened to her.

In the 1970s, my first husband and I built a 26' fiberglas kit boat with a swing keel for gunkholing around the island. Sold her in the 1980s. I still occasionally hear of her adventures sailing around with her "new" owners, so I guess we did an ok job!

I've recently started helping my dad out on his 43" Lancer, so I thought that perhaps the best way to come up to speed is to

1) join our local sailing club and

2) find a good on-line forum.

In addition to reading everything I can and trying to fit all the new and updated knowledge into my brain, when I learned this forum supports albums I decided to start uploading pix of PELE. If you remember PELE, my parents (Don and Geri Yuen), Frank Porpet (sp) and Will Summers (of the WHITE CLOUD), I would especially love to hear from you! I'm trying to find out what happened to PELE after my mother sold her.

Aloha,
"Hula Rider," aka Leilehua Yuen
