Another greeting from the roaring forties

Hi All, I'm Arpad from New Zealand. I'm not completely a newbie, but definitely new on this forum. I have a 28 footer (locally built Nova 28, FG...) keel boat, what I purchased about a year ago. Ever since I clocked around 1500 miles, mainly single handed, which is not quite significant, unless you considering that is all within a 50 mile radius around my home port, Lyttelton. I did some racing over the last two season, but Waimanu II (this is my boat's name, meaning "Waterbird" in Maori) is not the fastest, also racing around cans is not quite my cup a tee. Anyway that was a great opportunity to build confidence in boat handling and being sure I want to sail further.
I also had some time to figure it out what I want to change and improve on the boat, like hardware positions, winches, clutches etc which is quite important when you sail alone.
As I'm a hands on person I like/love to do things myself, so I already read a number of threads on this forum, seeking answers and opinions about different things, thanks for everyone I found answers most of the time.
I have two things on my wishlist which need a bit of research (actually one as the second one, the hard dodger is almost complete) that is the self steering wind vane... but that is to another post/thread.
So Thanks for having me here and I wish fair winds to all of us.

PS.:any comment on my grammar would be appreciated as English isn't my first language... as you could tell anyway.

Re: Another greeting from the roaring forties

g'day Nagy, and welcome to CF.

Sounds like you are well on your way to being an addict like many of the participants here. For info on wind steering vanes, try using the google custom search feature accessed from the search tab near the top of the page. There have been several long threads on various aspects of the subject in the last few years, and they will offer a good background for any specific questions that you may then have..

BTW, your English is a hell of a lot better than that of many of the native English speakers that post here!

Jim
