Back again

Hello all,
I see that it has been 3 years since I last visited the forum. To recap, a number of years ago the maintenance list had got down to a single page (it never goes to nothing, does it) so there was no excuse not to go off cruising, and so we did, the wife and I.
It was a wonderful 4 years filled with good sailing, good anchorages and good friends but by 2010 we were thinking of swallowing the anchor and settling down. So the boat was sold and we bought a small cottage beside the sea in a little harbour town in the north island (NZ) where my wife joined the local croquet club and I joined the other grumpy old farts on a seat on the harbour wall where we amused ourselves by roundly critiquing everybody's boat, seamanship, handling skills etc.
This idyllic state of affairs lasted for 18 months or so until my wife gave voice to our unsaid mutual thoughts. 'I want another boat!' said she.
So now we have an H28. We bought the boat up north and although the voyage home was only a couple of hundred miles, being in the depths of winter, single handed and in an unfamiliar vessel, not without its points of interest.
We plan to continue living in our cottage and use the boat for extended coastal cruising 'when we feel like it.' Hopefully the best of both worlds.
Just now the ZF gearbox has decided it doesn't want to push the boat around anymore, so, another job for the ever growing maintenance list.
Its good to be back.

Chris

Re: Back again

Well I can't really say "welcome back" cos I'm a newcomer, but I'll say it anyway.

It would be great if we could coax a few interesting stories out of you since you were last here.

What was your most surprising or unexpected discovery?
