Been Lurking a Touch - First Post

Hey Yall, been lurking ever since I found this message board after my cuz-in-law bought a sailboat early this month. Have enjoyed trying to learn a bit from yall. Been around boats all my life.....just not sailboats.

Hubby left Ft. Lauderdale with my cousin's husband and two other guys this past Thursday headed towards Trinidad. My cousin and I will join them probably in Antigua whenever they have a clue as to when that will be. Trip seems to be going well but slow as they've had to motor more than use the sails due to thunderstorms.

Open to any advice and pointers from you Ole Saltys out there.

Re: Been lurking a touch, 1st post

Thanks for the welcome. The cruise was quite an adventure for the guys! This beautiful vessel was neglected for too long. Her weak links surfaced during the days they sailed. They had to abort the plans to sail to Antigua and instead headed for the closest island San Salvador Isle in the Bahamas. Forgot to mention that the winds were not right for them to use the sails so they had to motor most of the time. Getting more fuel was a must at this point.

My hubby called me from the island and asked me to join him there at one of the only two hotels on this tiny beautiful island. Since my bag was already packed I hopped the next plane and did just that! Meanwhile the other guys got the boat repaired enough, or so they thought, and left right before I arrived minus my hubby. They sailed to Dominican Republic where the boat will stay in safe harbour for the duration of hurricane season. Too many things to mention went wrong with this boat and to top it off a doozie of a storm with 15 plus seas. Thank goodness the boat glided thru (in spite of her other problems) the sea like a champ. Our plans are to attempt to sail to Trinidad in a few months. Disappointed and felt terrible for my cousin's hubby the boat's owner but really did enjoy our island vacation.

Sorry for the long post. Have to be honest in saying along with my poor spelling, lack of sailing knowledge........I write the way I talk.........too much! Thanks for your patience if you managed to hang in there reading.
