Boat Restoring in Progress Newbies to CF

Hi all, we have sold a perfectly sound and fast cruising/ ex racing boat and purchased a 'Project'... badly neglected for a very long time. We are restoring her to what she should be ... a lovely concept ... just hard work. She is 34 ft, triple diagonal Cedar sloop and had rot at transom and bow and leaks in cockpit and cabin top. Basically the Hull is fine it is just everything else that needs work. It is now 10 months since we started working mainly weekends. Have reconditioned Yanmar engine, stripped the mast and boom ready for repaint, repairs to Genny and new main ... and stringers re done (laminated cedar strips). The transom required new laminated knees, and new transom and deck ... all done and ready for final glass cover and paint job ... looks great ... and no more leaks from there anyway. This all in the water on her mooring ... When slipped for checking underwater ... we stripped 40 years of anti-foul from her and made a few minor repairs ... after the bow repair we will put the motor back in ... This is a long term project ... just hoping by next Aussie summer we are sailing again at least.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a heck of a project.

Do you have a website/blog documenting the work? Good luck on everything!

Welcome to CF.

Given what you have on your plate you probably don't have time to read the entire Refurb thread in my Sig line below - in any event a bit too late to now act as a warning!

Thanks David_Old_Jersey ... it is a rainy Saturday with 45 knots at times and a great day for reading ... many thanks ... We are at home and DJ is finalising the welding of the Engine Mounts ... I'm the gofor. We have too many pics but I will start to upload a few ... No blog either at this stage ... The companionway hatch cover was done early after we started on this journey ... so we could see at least one thing completed

There are a few finished bits and also lots of nearly finished ... there are laminated stringers all done ... the transom almost ... its a bit like a jigsaw puzzle ... all the pieces are there and soon will all go back together ... then its just about making her pretty

Welcome aboard and thanks for sharing your project pictures. You have done some NICE work! We are finally seeing the end of light of our own project boat. Keep going-the end result feels so good! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your boat especially as you start to put all the pieces back together again.
