Boatless in Springfield, Oregon.

Hi there,
I have been boatless since the mid 90's. I started boating on my dad's Cal 20 and later built my own 37' double ender. Sold it to the partner I could not live with any longer. Sad day walking away from the marina after putting 7 years of building into the boat. But I moved on to a Hunter 27 as a live aboard and had a few good years sailing that in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia. I sold it and moved to Springfield, Oregon where I live now. I met a wonderful woman in Moscow, Russia and we've been married for 16 years. The only boating my wife has done is on one of the Trilogy catamarans in Maui. She did fine as long as the boat was anchored. Moving, not so well. She is pretty sensitive to motion. However, I hold out hope that we can find a way to make her more durable to life on the water. We shall see. I would love to get back to living on a boat. Who knows? I'm not going to push her into it but I'm going to try some baby steps and see how she fares.

As for the Cruisers Forum, it is a fabulous resource and I love reading all the information that people share about their experiences sailing as well as the nuts and bolts of living aboard. Thanks for having me!

Re: Boatless in Springfield, Oregon.

My wife gets seasick, and she tolerates the motion of a catamaran better than a monohull's motion. We ended up sailing around the world in a catamaran because it worked better for my wife. I would have been happy in a monohull or a cat.
