Broke my mast, need help finding a replacement. Chicago IL

Hello, hoping to get some help. I have a south coast 22’ with a 23’ mast. We were out sailing and a side stay failed causing the mast to bend in half. It’s completely useless and now I’m trying to find a used one. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I live in Chicago but willing to travel a few hours to get one for a decent price.

Welcome to the form. Information like where you live might be helpful.

It is not going to be easy to find an existing replacement. It's been forty years since production stopped. The only real hope is in the production of 3,000 boats, such that there are some derelict boats out there somewhere.

Perhaps you can find the right extrusion at Dwyer or a similar mast shop, buy the aluminum, and transfer your fittings to it:

Just find an extrusion similar in size and weight to your existing mast. Buy the length you need and transfer the hardware from the old mast to the new.

Looks like used masts are about 500$ USD on Ebay and a new section from Dwyer (2.75 x 3.75-this matched my mast) would be about 800$ with the sail feed slot cut into it. Of course you'd have to reckon with the mast step if they are not a 100% match and any other hardware swapping issues.

I am not sure who salvages boats around Chicago. There is an outfit near Green Bay WI, I have not bought from them but have googled and drooled:

You can sleeve the broke spar.

Try various serious working marina-boat yards for salvage. Such as Torresen in Muskegon, Michigan

Buy a spar from any of the usual makers and transfer your components.

Thanks for all the help everyone, definitely going to explore all the options on here. Still thinking I might have luck retrofitting a similar mast and paying to have the standing rigging done professionally.

Just requested a quote for shipping. The mast will be about $500 to build. As long as shipping isn’t too bad this seems like a decent option. Thanks!
