Canadian in New Zealand dreaming of warm seas

Hi all,

I'm a Canadian who immigrated to New Zealand. Currently shopping for a boat with the dream of living aboard with my dog, and eventually heading up from New Zealand to the south pacific, Australia, and eventually, the world.

Was lucky enough to be first mate on a friend's 42ft Moody this last summer (Dec/Jan) and circumnavigated NZ. The deep south was amazing in terms of fishing and scenery. We feasted on crayfish (lobster), blue cod, scallops, mussels... Was an amazing time.

Although I know sailing channels on YouTube are a dime-a-dozen, I've got some unique ideas to produce something special, for my own enjoyment. And my dog is incredibly photo-genic, I'm sure people will fall in love!

I'm here to look for vessel purchasing advice. I've already gone through two serious surveys here in NZ but not been satisfied with the vessel conditions. Seems very common for owners not to ensure the absolute sealing of all fixtures, ingress is really common here.

cheers,
Jordan

Note for jorxter: Caulking isn't forever. It eventually loses its flexibility, and requires t o be re-done. If sea water gets into balsa core, it can start rot in the core, and needs to be repaired. Ditto for plywood core and foam core. It's life. Very few things are "forever."

Re: Canadian in New Zealand dreaming of warm seas

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.

Thanks Adelie, I've updated that now. Looking at a 13m steel Feltz this weekend.
