Chicago Hello!

Greetings Cruisers,

My name's Ed and I love being on the water. My sailing partnership just dissolved, so I am eager to meet new seafaring friends.

I grew up sailing Lasers and Hobies in Columbus, OH. I used to race there, but I've been more of a cruiser since moving to Chicago and bigger water. For the past few years, I've been in a partnership on a 27' Grampian moored at Monroe. She sailed like a Volvo stationwagon and was perfect for that after-work cruise. Attached a photo of the lady and I sailing home last month.

Anyway, I'm hoping to connect with some other Chicagoans on the forum. Those of you who currently have sailing partners, how did you find them? Any advice for a newcomer looking to join an existing partnership?

Ed

Welcome sir. Methinks your boat is a model Grampian G-26 (26 feet).
Great boat for sure.

Jim - you're likely right. Boats are like fish, and always seem bigger after the fact

Unfortunately, that boat's taken a trip to the chipper, and I'm searching for new partners this season. Do each of you own outright? Are partnerships fairly common, or was I in an unusual arrangement?

Re: Chicago Hello!

Uh, by "this season" do you mean next year, or are you into ice boating? I live in the Chicago area and the water round here is fixin to get really hard here in the near future. I'm all for fall sailing but the marinas round here shut down on 11/1.

Love to hear from folks sailing in the Lakes. I don't sail near Chicago - we keep our boats 270 miles north in Door County. A long drive, to be sure, but many more opportunities for short cruises and anchoring in quiet coves.

Welcome aboard!

We have about 120 boats in our marina. About 90 of them are sail. Out of that total, I am only aware of one partnership owning a boat. Everyone else owns outright.
