Elucubration in Egmont BC

Hi. I joined Cruisers Forum to ask for support reinstalling OpenCPN chart plotter software and NDI Digital Ocean official Canadian raster chart CDs (bought almost 20 years ago, but rocks and reefs haven't moved much) on a replacement laptop for my dad's commercial fishing boat. (Whether his routes, waypoints, and more recent digital charts will be recoverable from his unresponsive IBM T61 ThinkPad / Lenovo 6457 4UU laptop is another matter again.)

I'm all right now though, after wending my way through labyrinthine instructions to get all working. OpenCPN is at Version 4.2, but I wonder if the chart-installing parts of the online manual might be based on an earlier version, while the manual that's bundled with the program for offline use seems a bit different again. Some sections redirect excessively, some overlap partly, and the instructions for "what" goes "where" seem to assume you already know which "what" is which in your particular circumstance. Anyway, in the end I discovered the right things to try in the right order, long before I could produce a written description of the situation.

Thanks for creating such a fine community. I imagine I'll bring a few questions or thoughts here in future.

Welcome to the forum Crab, and I'm glad you got your problem solved.

I have to admit that my first thought upon reading your thread title was
"Elucubration? Isn't there a vaccine for that?" Lol.
