From the Little Red Dot

Hi,

First, I'd like to express my joy at having discovered this forum! I have been reading some of the threads and I feel that this will be one of the forums which I will visit frequently. While I so not currently own a boat, I hope to draw upon the wealth of experiences of fellow forum members.

I recently graduated and am new to the workforce, so no boat for me in the near future. Nonetheless, I have long been enamoured with the sea. I would have joined the merchant marine if I could have things my way. Anyways, I have a stable land-based job currently and plan to save up to purchase a boat in 5-10 years time.

Here in Singapore, cash truly is king. Over the years, I have concluded that boaters here are either wealthy, or have a true passion for the waters that they are willing to sacrifice numerous other pleasantries of life (guess I fall into the second category). I have always dreamed of owning a boat, enjoying the wind and waves in their various forms. And I will make it a reality!

In this forum, I hope to link up with local sailors (hopefully there are!) who can show me the ropes of owning and sailing a boat. Over the years, I have regularly surfed the web for articles on sailing, boat sales classifieds and picked up magazines and boks related to boating. With real income flowing in recently, owning a boat seems more like a reality!

Hi Nazri - There are a ton of local Singaporeans enjoying boating and sailing all the time. Ownership takes many forms and does not have to be expensive, although there is no shortage of expensive yachts here.

I am off to the US for 4 weeks of business, unfortunately at the worst time of the year i.e. the best sailling time.

Send me a PM with your email address and when I get back I would be glad to have you on our boat. I sail out of Changi Sailing Club.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
You've already found someone in Singapore that will invite you to sail! You are extremely lucky.
regards,
