BONAIRE!!!!

Bonaire is a world class diving country. The entire island is a national marine park. The goverment and the population is dedicated to keeping the area prime.

The water is spetacular, the fish are great, and the coral plentiful. Water is warm and current is light, and is in the lee of the island. There are dive sites on the windward side as well.

You moor your boat with in 200 feet of shore (no anchoring anywhere in Bonaire). There are tons of dive sites with a variety fish & coral. You can easily dinghy to about 60-70% of the sites.

The diving is so good that many people including ourselves dive at least once a week right off the back of the boat!

We went for 2 weeks and stayed for 3 months and will be going back for this huricane season.

I equate the diving in Bonaire to "going into Baskin Robbins and ordering 'plain vanilla'". It is ok for some, but most others like some variety. For my money, I would prefer to dive Puerto Rico over most of the other Caribbean Island. It is a hidden treasure.

To Dive

We have yet to dive PR, but have not met anyone who has said the Bonaire was plain Vanilla! Most of the people we have met and ourselves so far have been disappointed with other dive sights in the Caribe after diving Bonaire.

One of the nice things about cruising is the opportunity to dive in multiple locations in a year rather than go to one or two place a year. We expect to dive 12-18 different islands for the different experiences

We will keep you update as we dive new locations. Unfortantely, we will continue to compare to Bonaire.

I loved the Bahamas for snorkeling and free diving. Frankly, I think it's the best in the trip; few others around, great spearfishing for dinner, a lot of variety, clear water.

We have dived in the Florida Keys, the BVI's, St Maarten, and St Vincent & the Grenadines, and liked the BVI's the best.

When we've been there, there was more diverse and more colorful sea life and coral as well as less current effect and better visibility.

Aloha Caroline,
Welcome aboard! Pretty much anywhere in the Carib is good diving. I've only done St. Johns and St. Croix but both were better than average.
Kind regards,
