Gramps returning to his first boat

Hello to all,

About 45 years ago I bought $2 worth of plans from the Douglas Fir Plywood Association. 5 years later, and with much trepidation, VALKYRIE was launched in Marion, MA.

After sailing her for 15 years and teachng my three children to sail, I sold her and moved on to bigger boats.

Over the years I've sailed the waters of New England, as far as Grand Manan to the north and Bermuda to the south. Yearly cruises along the Maine coast bring back fond memories

Now my children are grown and married, and the list of grandchildren keeps growing. I'm refurbishing another Thunderbird, hopefully to be able to share the love of the sea with the new generation.

In the new project, I have many questions. I look forward to getting help from all.
In return I'll share some of what I've learned (most of it the hard way ) as it seems I can help you, too.

Welcome aboard Goodrun. Nice story. A wonderful thing to share a love of sailing and boats with your kids and their kids. Post pictures of your project if you can. I'd love to see them. Good luck.

Aloha Goodrun,
Welcome aboard!! I love those Thunderbirds. Great design and fast. I only sailed on one twice but it was great fun. Its name was S B 1. My friend had no imagination. The S B stood for Sailboat
Kind Regards,
JohnL

welcome aboard.
Great boats, those T-Birds!
Those $2 plans are now $50 - what an investment.

The T-birds are still going strong. There are four in our club (which is close to the largest number of any brand, I think) and they are inveterate racers.
