Re: Greetings From a New Member in Oz.

Welcome Brian, We are currently in Pittwater replacing our Bukh with a Volvo. Our original Bukh we rebuilt at 10,000 hours and it finally passed it's use by date at 22,000 hours. We put in a factory rebuilt engine 3 years ago. Now T the start of this winter cruising season we started to see white smoke. The more the mechanic delved into the problem the more the parts were building up in price. We discovered the engine had never been re-conditioned. The Bukh supplier said our mechanic was over servicing. So after several costly and unfair dealings with the supplier we decided to forego another Bukh - beautiful engine though it is w cannot recommend the dealer here in Sydney. We have heard from a dealer in Queensland who also has similar problems in dealing with the main supplier so it is not just a personality issue. Anyway if you have any questions we are in the area and have had 18 years of maintaining a Bukh engine.

We are currently on the slip in McCars Creek. Sail drive hopefully being installed today. Mike's telephone no is 0458089013 and mine is 0487 426 425. Our boat is Yaraandoo II, a Joe Adams Naut 40.

Cheers Sue

Re: Greetings From a New Member in Oz.

Hi Sue, Thanks for your communication. Serendipity; I hav'nt been on the forum for several days. I have just (an hour ago) arrived back from bringing my boat down from Palm Beach to Scotland Island where I've had a mooring put down. We tied a friend's runabout alongside as the motive force and steered from the yacht's tiller. I hav'nt heard of anyone having unfraut dealings with the local Buhk agent-makes one wonder why they are still in business- must be the 'captive' clientele.
Last week I was making tentative enquiries about a replacement diesel and called in at WM Diesel in Mona Vale. Ive left a deposit on a used marinised Kubota 18-19HP and gearbox. The proprietor builds the heat exchangers himself and has an exellent reputation. Also it is convenient to have the builder so close.
Best of luck with the saildrive fitting! Cheers ,Brian.

Hi I have a WM motor in my boat and cannot sing John's praises loud enough.
I have found him to be extremely helpful and full of informatiion, even when there is no money in it for him.
All up a VERY BIG plus.
