Greetings from a newbie

Hello all,

My wife, 2 year old and I recently moved aboard our newly purchased vessel 'Spirit', a 66' wooden sloop built in 1946. The boat has a storied history; she was a flagship of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club under the command of Commodore Harold A. Jones. My wife and I have spent the last 6 months restoring her and upgrading her systems. We are now slowly starting to explore the Puget Sound and surrounding areas.

The craziest thing about all of this is that neither my wife nor I have ever sailed before. We had the dream and went for it. We are now full-time liveaboards. There have certainly been plenty of challenges and we've been adjusting. However, we're loving the adventure.

You'll see me posting around here. I've certainly got plenty of questions about things that will seem basic to everyone. Thank you all so much in advance for the time you will take to help out!

Re: Greetings from a newbie

I believe this is her sailing in Vancouver's English Bay circa 1946.

Congratulations to our new friend, FC, on his acquisition and a big welcome to our forum :-)

I, for one, should be most interested in hearing how Spirit is fitted out these days.

Commodore Jones was a most successful businessman. If memory serves, he was the driving force behind Vancouver Tugboat Company and several other successful enterprises.

VTB exists today as a division of Seaspan International, which may be fitting enuff given that the commodore was actually born in California though he came here as a "babby"
