Greetings from Arizona

Hello from Tim and Rhonda, new members from AZ, Lake Pleasant, AZ.

My sailing started in summer camps in Michigan. I quickly moved off the sun/sail fish and found catamarans and was hooked. We sailed and raced Hobies and Prindles throughout the great lakes. We went the powerboat ski/wakeboard routes as the kids grew older. Now we are empty nesters, moving a little slower and moved into monohulls.

We own a Macgregor 26s and a Hunter 260. Great little boats for the waters we are offered here in AZ and the occasional trip to SanDiego or Catalina. I guess you can call us dedicated weekend sailors as we head out every Friday and return Monday, year round. In AZ many consider summer the off-season as temps often reach 110F (43C) and or monsoons are just around the corner...but you can find us out there.

We look forward to being a part of this community. If you are ever in AZ give us a call we always welcome and enjoy showing off what desert lake sailing is all about.

Tim and Rhonda

Welcome, Tim and Rhonda! I sailed a Hobie 16, too, for over 25 years--loved that boat. I gave it away when we moved to Nevis, but wish I still had it here. Hope you enjoy the forum as much as I do!

Sailing AZ

Yes there is sailing in AZ, land of cactus, deserts and of course our 110 degree dry heat.

In AZ the lakes are resevoir lakes. The property surrounding the major lakes are all State owned with many wildlife preserves, so no homes or clutter just mountains, wildlfe (eagles, wild buros, mountain lions, deer, Havelena and of course snakes) and great coves for overnighting. Not the big blue but you are right there are some spectacular views, blue skys, year round sailing and great sunsets. Here are few pics as you requested.

Hello Tim & Rhonda,

I once owned a Prindle 16. Do you recall what your sail number was?
I believe my own was 849, but the years make that a murky possibility. I too have good memories from those days.

And like you, I have slowed down somewhat. But thats life, right

Now there you go putting out memory challenges.

We sailed in the 2 person Hobie 16 and the three person Prindle 18 classes. The Hobie was mine and the Prindle a friends. We captained our own boat and crewed for the other. I will have to dig around in old pics to pull that one out.

A lot of water by the boards since those days and back then many of them ended a little off center.
