Greetings from Lake Macquarie NSW Aus

Hi, we've just joined today after Googling for any history or info about the boat we've recently bought.S&S 30 or Defiance 30. Info came up on this site! Glad we found it. We're new to ocean sailing, but as we purchased the boat from North Queensland, and the skipper hired to deliver for us was having trouble getting a crew for that time,my wife and I joined him for the epic journey south. Started from the Whitsundays Hamilton Island where we met the skipper part way.Stunning scenery.Skipper left us after the first 600-700 nautical miles, then we continued about another 200 on our own.Great boat.Great experience, even the big storm(now it's over)We were unable to finish the journey past this point as weather wasn't favourable, and we needed to get back to work.Someone else brought her home a few weeks later to her new home in Lake Mac.From the info on purchase, our boat was built near Coffs Harbour, which is where we had to leave it to return home. Seems like she didn't want to leave home again. On this site, we found out who the builder was, and we're hoping to retrace the history now. This is the third name she's had.Now we're back in NSW waters we need to install holding tank.Anyone with any ideas or suggestions, love to hear from you.

Greetings Ourjeep, and welcome to CF.

As a previous owner of an American S&S 30 (Yankee 30) I suspect that you have a great boat to sail around the lake and the East coast. I'm not sure of the differences between the two versions... could be a lot, I suppose, but S&S did not design many dogs. We did around 25,000 miles in Dominique, including SF-Hawaii-SF and a lot of single hand ocean racing out of SF. Loved that boat...

This was long before the holding tank days, so I have no advice on that subject for you.

Enjoy the forum,

Jim

Welcome, OurJeep! NSW is a beautiful place. Is Lake Macquarie at or near Port Macquarie?

Hi Ourjeep

I also have a Defiance 30 "Petra" built by Jack Savage in Melbourne recently sailed it from Sydney to its new home in Manly Brisbane. Great windward boat and very sturdy, sailed a mate of mine Defiance around Base straight, King Island, Portfairy, etc. So had to have one.

I also need to add a pump out tank, but not my top priority just yet. Too many other jobs to be done, old boat 1978.

Maybe we should start a Defiance 30 thread,

Hi Ourjeep and welcome aboard. I hope you have a great time in you new acquisition. I have recently purchased a Jock Muir ketch, currently moored in Pittwater. I am sure we will have very similar experiences and stories to share.

Kind Regards
H

Hi also to GoPopp.

I recently bought the Jock Muir 50' ketch moored in Pittwater and will be bringing her back to Brisbane to her new home port around Easter. GoPopp I see your home port is Brisbane, and though we have very different boats we might be able to catch up sometime and exchange stories.
