Greetings from Maine

Hi All,

I'm new to sailing and obviously, this forum. I'm also looking forward to purchasing my first boat. The winters up here are horrible (my body dislikes cold weather) but the summers are wonderful. I can think of no better life than being up north in the summer and as the weather gets colder, heading south as the spirit moves.

My wife and I are getting divorced (not because of the boat) and I'm fully disabled so I'll have plenty of time to sail. My ultimate goal is to see the world.

Welcome aboard. I recently separated and became disabled also. Bought a boat a year ago and am now a liveaboard waiting to go South.
Stay with this forum. You'll find it invaluable and fun.
Welcome and fair winds,
Jim

Welcome, Harold

You have good instincts - after the fog lifts, the Maine coast is gorgeous for sailing in the summer. For the winter head south.

Good for you!

What do you mean you are fully disabled? Where in Maine are you based?

Mainers are great - yop.

Disabled

I have severe emphysema (30% or my lungs left) which makes it tough to do heavy work. I have found, however, that sailing isn't too big of a problem. I do plan on changing the halyard winches over to electric ones.

Right now I'm located in Skowhegan, just about the center of the state. It takes me an hour and a half to get to the ocean.

Once I get through with the divorce and the selling of my home, I plan on heading south for the winter, or as much of it as I can and only return to Maine when it is warm (July 4th or so).
