Greetings from the Atlantic, but also Florida!

Floridian here! Merchant Mariner by trade, writing this post while off the coast between Nova Scotia and Maine!

I recently acquired a 1985 Petit Prince 125 in need of a lot of love. She will be a lot of work to restore back into cruising shape, but I think it'll be worth it for me in the end. Learn some new skills, learn the boat, and then the reward is I get to go cruising.

It has been difficult finding information, but I've slowly started collecting things to begin documenting everything. The French site Hisse-et-oh has been a huge source, but I still have many questions, and I don't know French!

She is steel-hulled cutter-rigged sloop with an aft-cockpit. Oddly enough, I have yet to find pictures of another aft-cockpit Petit Prince. Strange.

Ask me in a year if I regret my decision. :P

I'm looking forward to being completely overwhelmed and entirely in over my head!

Thanks! Do you happen to do a lot of CelNav? I've slowly been going through David Burch's book on the subject. I also got his Hawaii by Sextant book! Cool stuff.

Re: Greetings from the Atlantic, but also Florida!

I was taught by the late SkiprJohn which was a member here and sailed as crew with me to Mexico. I learned it then. If I had to do it again, it would be a long learning curve. It was fun though. I never was able to get closer than 2 1/2 miles.

Petit Prince by Subrero?
One of the best looking hard chine designs, more so with aft cockpit!

late 83, stern-to the pebble beach in front of temple Paofai, Pape'ete, three boats NE of us "Benjamin", French flag, aft cockpit, looking tough & business-like & very elegant...
those were the days...
(I'll be digging for the pic, it's on another PC)

I'll keep my eyes open for that! Yup, Marcel Subrero was the Architect for the Petit Prince 125.

For what it is worth, according to someone on HEO, Moitessier was stingy with compliments and found the boat remarkable. Although I'm not sure which rig setup his was in reference to.

Thanks so much! That's awesome. How did you even remember?

They deviated even more from the plans. No upward facing chine with windows, and no side deck level windows that face forward.

Attached file is of a ketch version, but even the sloops all set to have the raised deck extend all the way aft.

Re: Greetings from the Atlantic, but also Florida!

"Binjamin" impressed me with an elegance unequalled by any round-bilge hull. The ever so slightly concave stem, the stern, the flushdeck & low coach-roof - everything "just so! Unfortunately I have just this one pic (remember, these were the times of celloluid film that you sent home to be developped, 36 pics to the roll...)
If you want I cant try to get more resolution out of the print)
