Greetings from the desert!

Hi all,
I live in central Arizona, am a musician and an artist. I sailed many, many years ago (1978-82) on the Chesapeake. My boyfriend--at the time--had a 40' wooden ketch, with a 6' draft! We had to be very careful, but we had a ton of fun gunkholing and exploring the islands in the Bay.

Just recently, my husband and I were invited to go sailing on a 20' Catalina on Lake Pleasant in AZ. I had forgotten how much I loved sailing! So here I find myself looking at sailboats, haunting the classifieds and trolling Craigslist.

As I am close to retiring, I'm looking for where my next sailing adventure will be. I'd love to do the Chesapeake again.

I have many questions, so I'll be watching this forum!!!

Thanks for adding me.....

Re: Greetings from the desert!

Welcome to CF. I had to laugh when I read your post. Back in November 2017, while I was spending the winter in Scottsdale, I took sailing lessons on Lake Pleasant. Until that day I had never set foot on a sail boat. It was a life changing experience for me. Long story short, I am in the process of selling my house, most of my worldly possessions, and in December, I will be moving onto my new boat full time and eventually I will set sail for Europe, and from there, who knows.

Best of luck as you pursue your dreams!

Damn, just like me... Sailing in the Chesapeake, then career on top of a mountain, built my own boat in a horse pasture (don't do it) and down the rivers to Florida for retirement. Do keep in touch. The forum has been a great place for me to fill in the holes in my understanding, and then occasionally explain something to someone else.

Re: Greetings from the desert!

Couldn't find these pics when I first signed up, but went on a hunt. This is the 40' wooden ketch that we sailed all around the Chesapeake. She drew 6' so it was a challenge, sometimes. Sure miss this boat. "Myrddin".Click image for larger version
