Greetings from the Philippines.

Hi crew mates.
I’m an English expat, RYA Yachtmaster trained, who left the stunning sailing area of South-West England 16 years ago when my career took me to mainland China.
However during my exile I married my beautiful Filipino wife and built my dream home on the stunning island province of Palawan.
Now rapidly approaching retirement, I want to use my time and explore the 7000+ islands in this breathtaking archipelago.
But first I need a boat!
My first thought was to build s small 8m cat, ideal for coastal sailing particularly around the coral islands around where I live..... but that takes time to build!
More recently I’ve been offered s TC42 mermaid ..... beautiful yacht but in need of serious TLC, but only cosmetic!
So I plan initially to use this forum and the internet to find out as much as possible about this yacht as I can. MAINLY..... it is just too damn big!

Howdy and Welcome Aboard Geoff!

The Philippines are pretty.
I spent several months in Davao, Mindanao a couple of years ago.

There are several CF Members currently in the PI.
Sailing in the PI has been a topic of several discussion threads in the last few years. Here are links to them:

Good luck with your new boat.

Welcome to CF from Subic.

My first thought is that you may grow to appreciate the CT Mermaid in the waters surrounding our many Islands.

Strong currents, high mountains that funnel the wind thru channels in the Visayas, makes for steep and square head seas.

The CT, with a good foot in the water will fare more comfortably in those, conditions than a cat as will her ability to carry more load.

Spent 3 weeks last November in Port Barton area... Terrific area near you to explore the surrounds

Thanks for the reply.
I’m in Puerto Princesa and my initial idea of building a small cat was to explore the many coral islands in the shallow seas close to me. But then I thought this was too restrictive, so went for a more traditional monohull.
One thing for sure ..... I’ll need a good accurate set of charts :-)
Hope to see you on the horizon some day.
Regards,
Geoff

Re: Greetings from the Philippines.

Hi Geoff,
How did you make out re: the Mermaid? I just sailed mine home to NB last year and have her out to do some repairs, (also purchased her reasonably cheap. Hence the need to repair) I won't trouble you with all the things, mostly simple stuff but numerous, unless you actually purchased one and we can commiserate together then, lol.
