Hello!

Hello all. Been lurking for awhile and decided to join the forum.

I've been an occasional sailor most of my life, but mostly the daysail, weekender find of thing. I currently have a Macgregor 26m that I have a love-hate relationship with. Size is the thing I love about it, but also hate about it.

I'm considering moving up to a bigger boat - I'm intrigued by the new Gemini Legacy - I'd like to do ICW, coastal cruising and the Bahamas for some extended trips in a few years. I like the size of this boat and the access to alot of places it may afford.

I've been reading the Slapdash blog and am quite inspired/impressed with what they have done with a supposedly unsuitable boat for circumnavigating. I'll probably never do such a thing, as I'd be single-handing, and am not a very confident sailor. But I'd love to go to some of the places they've been!

Re: Hello!

Hi Wincrasher.

Your quandary over boat size I think you know, is a common one. Small is convenient, less expensive, easier to handle but more room is nice.

You might find that the right boat just a few feet longer may give you a lot more room. Have you looked at a 30' Catalina?

Re: Hello!

Welcome aboard! I love the Gemini, despite some flaws (the Legacy is gorgeous, but has some significant trade-offs from the 105Mc, especially draft). Good luck with the search. We have friends who cruised the Bahamas several years with a MacGregor and then bought an older Gemini.
