Hello

Hi, we are a family of 4 (2 kids 7 and 9) living on an Admiral 38'. Origionally Canadian, when I finished my time working in Singapore I decided to act on my long held vision to sail around the world with my kids. So I took a course in Thailand and bought Sleek Keels and we've been living on her at the Fairhaven and Marion marinas near Newport in MA on and off since June. Have not sailed at all... After maintaining just about everything on the boat (or that's how it feels) we are finally ready to do some sailing (with a delivery captain). After all the work and investment I hope we actually enjoy sailing! We have always traveled a lot but this is our first time on the water as a family.

I've been doing tons of research on this site for about 12 months now and would like to thank all of you for many insights, useful tips and information.

Cheers,
Sherm

Re: Hello

Welcome aboard, Sherm,

Wow, that's a burden on you and your family! I hope it works out well for you. Maybe your and your good lady can learn a lot from the delivery skipper on the way, 'cause if you don't already sail at all, you're at the bottom of what can be a very steep learning curve. It isn't just sailing the boat, it's learning about how winds and currents affect you, and when to do what, and how to anchor safely, just for starters. 'Cause you're in an environment basically hostile to humans. What you're undertaking isn't like driving an SUV across America, although you can turn it into a motor everywhere sort of thing--what a shame that would be!--I hope your skipper teaches you respect for the sea. That will serve you very well.

Ann

PS, 25+ yrs cruising, living at anchor most of the time.

Ann

Re: Hello

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Take some small steps. Take a basic sailing course and then go for it.
