hello all -from the great white north.

Hello Everyone, I thought I would stick my head in say hello and formally introduce myself.

I live in calgary alberta and mostly sail out of ghost lake.

I have a macgergor 26x, its a cool boat, old -1996-but I got it for a reasonable price.

i am hoping to go out to the okanogan this summer and sail that lake. Vernon, pintictian and kalowna.

I am finishing up a coastal navigation course in the next few weeks and hoping to be out on the BC coast next year.

In my perosnal life, I am a an engineer, and land surveyor and run a company called axiom geomatics. https://axiomgeomatics.ca/

Have a wife and step kid. I don't think either really likes sailing as much as I do.

Kevin.

Welcome, I'm just up the road from you, by Edmonton. We sail in wabamun. I drove down a couple weeks back to do some shopping at glenmore sailboats. We stopped and took a look at ghost lake, didn't look like much water. Hopefully you will have more by summer.

Yea, it is controlled by a dam, and after the floods a few years back they keep water low until later in the year. Kinda sucks. Not a lot of science to support what they are doing either, it is all just politicing.

Always want to sail on wabrum, . I think there is a power plant on that lake, and it keeps water warmer then normal?

Re: hello all -from the great white north.

There used to be 3 coal plants on wabamun. Now they are down to 2.we have only been sailing on it for one season, so I'm not positive but the temp seems pretty constant with other lakes, maybe gain a week in the fall and spring but that's about it.(although I do remember seeing geese by the genessee plant one Christmas) The nice thing about them is they pull water from the river for cooling and add it to the lake so levels stay fairly high. Hopefully this winter continues as it has and we can both be back on the water early.
