Hello! Dreams of circumnavigating..

Hello everyone,

I've been fascinated with travel, transportation and exploring all I can in life for as long as I can remember. My father taught me to love the outdoors and the water.. I've been lurking the forums for a while. I very much appreciate the knowledge base here and chance to meet fellow cruisers on my future voyages wishing calm waters and a steady wind at your back always.. Happy cruising!

Amber

Hi,

Welcome.

Big dreams are good if you want to achieve big goals. Good luck! Let us know as you progress.

If your target is circumnavigating (the world) then you may think about it for a moment and see if skipping the McGregor part and going a more direct route towards THE boat may take you there sooner.

Cheers,
b.

Re: Hello! Dreams of circumnavigating..

Hi Amber,

Welcome to CF, I share your goals. I've sailed to ports all over the world, but it was the shipping company's choice of ports and their schedules. I look forward as you do, to sail on my own terms, time schedules, and choice of destinations. If you have something better than a modest bankroll and really want to go far and wide, for your "final" boat you might want to consider a Sundeer 56 or 60. I can think of no other boat designed for serious long distance cruising as capable as those Dashew boats.

Thank you for your kind words and information, everyone. I am attempting to do this as affordable as possible and have a simple vision of my personal needs while cruising. I have friends interested in my ideas and we talk of sailing in a pod for safety and companionship.. I plan on downsizing my vehicle to free up a downpayment (then I think- do I even need a car?) for a solid starter boat. I very much appreciate the advice!

Re: Hello! Dreams of circumnavigating..

Aloha and welcome aboard!

Good to have you here. What, you don't have half a million for a boat? (Neither do I)

It's good that you start small because you learn much more about sailing and peformance with small boats. The big ones can wait. They'll still be there when you win the lottery.

Don't settle on the MacGregor until you've looked around a bit. There are plenty of small trailerables or even small cruisers available and you might want to look at a lot of them. Try the links after my signature and see if you can find a copy of the book recommendation.

kind regards,
