pirate Hello everyone!

I'm so excited to start this journey and so glad this forum is here!

My name is Aaron and I live in the Denver, Colorado (USA) with my wife, Rachel. We are thoroughly middle aged and have recently decided to work towards liquidating everything and buying a boat to live aboard and sail the world. Long path in front of us, but bound and determined. I'm originally from Massachusetts and she's from Florida. We are already chomping at the bit since making the decision about a month or so ago, but will be taking our time to do things as properly as we can.

I look forward to spending many hours on this forum reading and occasionally posting.

Take care, all!

Aaron

Re: Hello everyone!

Welcome aboard CF, Aaron and Rachel.

You need to get yourselves somewhere you have access to water, and sailing on the ocean. Until you know for sure that you both are content out there, I'd recommend making haste slowly. Join a sailing club, or just crew on local races, as that will expose you to a variety of boats, and the business of being part of a team and going out in all weather is extremely educational. Learn the essence of the Col regs. That's something you can do when it's snowing too hard to go out. Play with some rope and learn some knots. Read CF archives.

There's a limit to how far books can take you. You-tube is more "entertainment" than teaching as far as being a cruising sailor is concerned. What you need is hands on experience. You can learn about diesel mechanic-ing; and boat electrics, and there is still no substitute for own experience.

This free advice is worth what you pay for it. However, it is based on many years of living aboard and cruising. (I quit counting years after 35, and miles after 175,000 sea miles.)

Do feel free to ask specific questions, around here. And there are a number of threads about downsizing prior to moving aboard.

For searching on CF, use the CF Custom Google Search function under the Search button--the other CF search needs exact matches, case sensitive, too, whereas the Google Custom Search does better with ideas.

Re: Hello everyone!

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.
