Hello from Chile

Hi everyone,

I'm an English guy now living in Chile with my Chilean wife.

I love sailing and am an RYA Yachtmaster, PADI Divemaster, mechanic and many other things.

If you are passing our immense coastline and you need some help of any type just let me know.

There might be some old posts in here from me but I am now firmly rooted here so I want to get into the Chilean sailing scene in a big way and be of help.

If you know of anyone passing this way tell them to look me up will you.

See you in the forum or on the water,

Brian

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Brian.

Do you run the Chilean Yacht Charter, mentioned on the Travel website, to which you link?

Regarding the yacht charter on the site. I was asked to look into a week of yacht charter for a family then it fell through.

So I thought why not put the schedule on the blog just to see if it gets any interest. The yacht is beautiful and well equiped but the skipper doesn't speak English so that was where I came in. Also, the package was through an expedition company in the UK and with my medical, expedition and sailing experience I was to be the 'leader'.

Have I broke any 'advertiseing' rules by being connected to the trip?

I, mainly, am in here to meet up with people coming this way. It is quite a lonely place Chile for the international sailor. Despite the beauty of the south there just isn't a good community here, or I haven't found it.

Cheers,

Brian

G'Day Brian,
Can I echo the welcomes and equally hope the recent quake has not caused you any harm. And good to know you're happy to help any cruisers that may need it.
Good luck in finding that community.
JOHN

Brain, I suppose you know this, but the cruising community is pretty much based in Puerto Montt and Puerto Williams and a litte in Valdivia, and even more so in Ushuaia but that's Argentina

There is a retire english sailing couple, Ian and Maggy Staples, living a bit inland from Valdivia. They wrote the first edition of one of the main cruising guides for Chile. They are hosting the Chile sailmail station. They love having people come look them up. you can find them thru their website http://www.chilefarmholidays.com/

If you have a radio, there is an english language ssb net for the cruising boats in the channels and they always love to have shore people to help anchor the net and perhaps provide some weather information, it was at 12UT on 8164 (USB), (13UT in the winter I think)

Welcome Back Brian.....Well you have a vibrant community right here..

I don't have any sailing friends other then those I have met online...I don't have time to hang out at the docks or mingle at yacht club functions nor the desire to too be honest, so this is the perfect outlet for me and i have been rewarded greatly.

Both knowledge wise camaraderie wise and even eventually meeting and hanging out personally with local members you just happen to find that live close by.

So don't forget about us and stop on in often...

Hope you survived the Earthquake unscathed!

God Bless

We’re very sorry for your distress, and we hope that all turns out well for you and yours..

Please let us know, when you are able to determine your relatives fate.

From what I’ve read; electricity was down until midday Saturday in Santiago, where many residents, unnerved by rolling aftershocks that continue to rattle the country, spent the early morning hours in the pitch-black streets with just cell phones for light. Battery-powered transistor radios provided the only source of information for people who, with phone service also temporarily cut, had virtually no idea how the quake had affected the rest of the country.

Hi guys, I'm back.

Had a horrifying experience... evacuating a 22 story apartment block, constantly praying "Please don't collapse!"

Me and my family are fine thanks. You kind words are appreciated.

Now living with the mother-in-law (much more preferable to 'floor 5' of the block - considering all the after shocks we have felt - looking up from the bed at night at 17 other floors will be too much).

I will send KEKKUL (above) a PM to see how we can help. Our phones are working. I'll check my PM's often.

Thanks again for the kind words and also the advice on the sailing communities.

Brian

Howdy all,

Our friend KEKKUL above has located his family here in Chile, a big 'PHEW' all round.

If anyone else know of friends with people in trouble, or just out of contact, then drop me a line.

Take care,

Brian

Aloha and welcome to the forum

I'm glad all is well there for you. Here in Hawaii we were also concerned about the possibility of a tsunami generated by your large earthquake. We are all glad that you are ok.

kind regards,
