Hello From Jacksonville

Hello Everyone!

My nickname is GeorgiaPeach, but I guess you could say I am a Florida Peach now because I swapped the peaches for the beaches. My husband and I live in Jacksonville, FL now after sailing up from Coconut Grove in South Florida in June 2015.

We started our sailing venture with a Hunter 31 in the Chesapeake Bay. We moved to South Florida and bought a beautiful Hunter 376 to sail the cerulean blue waters of Biscayne Bay. Now we sail a Gemini 3000 in the Ortega River and the St. John's River. Yes, we gave up a monohull for a Catamaran, but that is another topic which could be debated for hours. 😀

Our long term goal is to sail The Great Loop and the Florida Keys with our Gemini. We also may sail to The Bahamas and venture more South depending on how adventurous we are at the time.

We are excited to be part of Cruisers Forum!

Re: Hello From Jacksonville

Welcome to the CF, Georgia! Nice cruising area. My parents lived on the river down there for many years, so I'm familiar but never cruised it. As I remember, it's quite the passage from Ortega to the Atlantic. The Ortega yacht club is a beautiful marina, and quite the social place.

Re: Hello From Jacksonville

Thank you so much! it is an easier ride if you catch the outgoing tide and time the opening of the bridges. If not, plan to spend the day on the St. John's River. We are still getting used to the area.

Re: Hello From Jacksonville

Hi GeorgiaPeach and welcome to the forum from another Georgian moved to FL.

If you're boating the St Johns be aware that the Main St Bridge in downtown JAX and the RR bridge are both on restricted schedules.

Re: Hello From Jacksonville

Welcome GeorgiaPeach. I currently live in Georgia (for one more year) and have a Gemini 3200 at Ortega Landing in Jax (s/v TikiCat). Stop by sometime and say Hi. I'm there one week a month. I too agree that Ortega Landing, despite raising their prices this month, is by far the best marina I have ever had a boat at.
