Hello from Landlocked Arkansas - for Now!

Just wondering if there is another soul out there who has gone from living a landlocked life to one on the sea, because that is my plan. Next spring I finish my bachelor's degree in nursing and I plan to learn to sail, buy a boat and live aboard it while working in/around Florida.
I have so much to learn, so many questions to ask that I hardly know how to begin....so I'm hoping to hear some encouraging words from someone who has pursued their dream!!
Looking forward to meeting many of y'all!!

Welcome to the forum. There are certainly many here who made that jump and plenty like me who are landlocked (Iowa for me) much of the year but manage time to get away. It's surprising what you can learn by just reading old forum posts, but you can always ask. That's what they are here for. The wealth of information and experience represented here never ceases to amaze me.

All the best...

I moved aboard after graduating from nursing school I have lived aboard before so had a good idea of what it would entail, but the best description I have found is civilized capming . Congrats on finishing your degree, I'll say a prayer for your boards, I hope you get in to a boat soon.
Happy sailing,
Erika

Hey, Sgb71

It's great to hear from another Arkansan with such ambition!! I can't offer much personal insight because I'm still in the process of making the dream come true myself. Like you, I'm finishing my bachelors here in Arkansas, then I'll be leaving the state for Florida/Caribbean and a live aboard boat.

It's so awesome to hear of someone nearby with the somewhat same goals and mindset. This state isn't real big on the sailing. You mention it to some people and they think you're crazy.... I mean, how can you wake board at 5knts?

But I really wish you the best, and I'd love to keep in touch as I haven't met many local people wishing for a life afloat.

Aloha and Welcome aboard!
You can do it. Just ask questions here and don't be shy.
Kind regards,

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes! I am staying busy browsing the threads, copying and pasting the great info that is already out there. I now have a list of books to read and a somewhat shorter list of questions to ask : I'm sure I'll come up with more than a few silly questions in the future that will make the ol' sea dogs roll their eyes!
