Hello from "landlocked" Kansas City :-)

Hey yal!

I'm Jon. My wife and I are in our 20's and are planning on/dreaming about buying a sailboat and spending the better part of a year or so exploring the Bahamas. We currently live in Kansas City and I want to show the wife all of the beauty that I was able to see last year on my "jet ski adventure" (my friend and I trailered down from KC to Miami, splashed our jet skis and rode 700 miles round trip to the Exumas and back). Ever since then it's all I can think about!

Anyway, my friend up here bought a 26' Tanzer last year and we have been playing around with it. I've been trying to learn everything I can, taking ASA basic courses, talking to sailors, reading, and am hoping to get more involved with the local sailing club this season.

That's pretty much my story in a nutshell. Hope you all are having fun!

You've made a good start. An ocean going jet ski is pretty adventurous. I'd be afraid of being mistaken for a bait being trolled behind a fisherman.

Yes, it was quite an adventure, indeed. Fisherman were the least of our worres haha. But, alot of people back home asked, "weren't you afraid of sharks and stuff?" Quite ironically, I ran one over at about 50 mph and at one point I was in the water with bullies and didn't even realize it.

Here's a link to our pics if you are interested in checking them out.

Looks like an excellent trip for sure.

I am in Kansas City as well and also am aiming towards taking a Bahamas trip in my boat likely in 2018 once I finally have enough vacation accrued to make it worth the trip.

Welcome - my second boat was a Tanzer and was so easy to sail. Have a ball!

Re: Hello from "landlocked" Kansas City :-)

We were in the bahamas for the first time last year and I was amazed how undeveloped and, in many ways, dyfunctional the bahamas are. So close to Florida yet just a vast turquoise abyss begging to be explored and get lost in. Meeting and interacting with the small settlements in the out islands was the best part.

Hope you can make it back in a boat..It will be a luxury cruise compared to living out of a jetski!
