Hello from Manitoba Canada !

Hey everyone. Just thought I'd say hello.

I'm 42 and was a Boatswain in the Canadian Navy 20 years ago. I'm a prairie boy and have always wanted to live on the west coast or somewhere with mountains and ocean. I recently sold my business and my home and have decided to buy a boat and sail around the west coast to start, then spend at least a year on the water cruising the world. I plan to do some writing, photography and filming and am just now searching for my boat. Possession on my house is October 18th, so I'm busy selling almost everything I own and am anxious to get settled into a boat. I'm planning to spend 8 weeks at a film school in LA, so I will be flying there and hope to get a boat in California and find a liveaboard slip in Marin Del Rey. Once I'm done my course, I'll head out, so I need to get my boat all rigged up, brush up on some sailing lessons, provision my boat, and by the new year, I hope to start my offshore adventure. So once again, hello, and off to reading all the wealth of information you've all gratiously shared on this site.

Welcome aboard, mate. All the best with the boat search. You would love the mountains and sailing down here in N.Z. Cheers.

Hey! Good to see another Manitoban here. Are you still living here or just from here?

That ain't no lie!! NZ is one of the primary destinations for my first trip. Just gotta get the boat and plan the route. Possession on my house is October 18th, and I'm trying to find something that I can liveaboard immediately. I'm wiling to fly pretty much anywhere, brush up on my sailing skills (was a boatswain in the Canadian Navy 20 years ago) and then make that place the starting point. I want to stop in LA for an 8 week film school intensive at some point, but plan to live on my boat for at least the next 2 years. Looking to spend around $80,000 for a rigged boat. Crossing my fingers I'll find something soon!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Thanks for your service. I've been in lots of ports with the Canadian Navy and think they are top notch.
Good luck in fulfilling your dreams.
kind regards,
