Hello from Minnesota

Hi All! I just took up sailing last fall, and I gotta say it's the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on! My girl and I are now seriously talking about buying a sailboat to live and travel on this summer. Crazy, huh? So now we're just trying to learn as much as possible about it; what to expect, what pitfalls to avoid, what kind of boat to buy, etc. Hope to learn from all you wise sailors out there!

Welcome to CF!

While I KNOW you'll get a lot of opinions about which boat to buy on here, you mightwant to start with your budget, size of boat, etc.

You're not crazy, people that don't sail are crazy.

Hey Nathaniel - WELCOME!! from a former fellow Minnesotan. I moved to Fairbanks from Dulut - up der by da rangech. This is a group is wonderful place to learn a ton of things about sailing. You'll also find no shortage of strong opinions - but then you'd understand that being from Minnesota.

Re: Hello from Minnesota

You could always just put a boat on a bouy on Calhoun or in a slip on Minnetonka (Shorewood has a couple slips open, but it is 200' per foot for the summer while a bouy on Minnetonka is $400). Check Hooper's Yachts for a small boat.

Once you've bought a boat, you can sail off to the tropics, then that need no longer be a problem!!!

Welcome aboard!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. Just now there are lots of bargains in boats. Sometimes I do some "window" shopping on this site: Sailboat Listings - sailboats for sale You can look up boats by state or by make. You might also want to check out the links after my signature and the book recommendation. I do recommend a basic course and the book "Start Sailing Right!"
kind regards,
kind regards,
