Hello from Nottingham, England !

Hi everyone, I am Sally and my husbant to be is Alan, we are in the midst of a mid life crisis wondering what has happened to the last 40 years of our lives. We both had the dream of having a sail boat and sailing the world, of breaking free of the daily rush hour and grey drizzling weather. Since my youngest daughter went to live with her father being free of responsibility has come around sooner than we expected. So to begin our dream we have taken a sailing course in the Canary Islands, and looking to continue training and buy a boat that we can live aboard for long periods. What do we know? Not much, but every day is a school day so thats why we have joined the forum to gain knowledge from those who know. We would be very gratful for any advice and look forward to posting some threads and asking if we can make our dream happen or if we are stark raving mad? If anyone knows where Nottingham is you will realise that in the UK we couldnt be further from the sea, and thats what makes our friends think we have lost the plot. Its great to see that some other dreamers like us are given such support from the members of this forum and are hoping this supports helps us move from dreamers to 'doing it'. Cheers Sally and Alan xx

Hey Sally and Alan....You are stark raving mad...welcome to the club!
When you get some time search some of our past threads...the Goggle box in "Search" is the best.
Welcome to the forum and looking forward to hearing more from the two of you.

yes that is a good question about the last 40 years .. one for which you may not find the answer. but you CAN plan on getting a boat and living on it. you took a big step by going to the canary islands and taking the course. good luck to you guys and cheers.

Hi Guys

Im just down the A1 at Peterborough,i got into sailing a couple of seasons ago and i also went to the canaries for my Day Skipper course,i did it with canary sail.

Ive got a little 26ft powersailor which im hoping to trade in this year and move to a 30ft bluewater boat.

The closest places for any decent sailing from Nottingham is down on the Orwell/Deben part of the south coast,i sail out of the wash as its quite close for me but the area is limited for sailing.

Sure, we have no idea where Nottingham is in the UK, but here in Florida we were raised with the exotic thoughts that Nottingham was the land of Errol Flynn, the deep woods, merry rovers and men that would defy the establishment and take risks for the betterment of all! So, what's new? You're off for adventure and the best of life! Take care and joy, Aythya crew
