Hello from Oregon, USA

Hello to all. My wife and I are planning for our great escape. We our currently in the research and learning stage of bluewater cruising. We have sailed the San Juan Islands and currently have a little puddle jumper aka trailerable sailboat. With tons to learn and do it seems a daunting task at this point.

Even with the very long list of items to accomplish it has been fun thus far. We have looked at a few boats, not finding 'the one' yet.

We look forward to learning from all of you and one day meeting under sail or on the hook!

Les and Linda

Re: Hello from Oregon, USA

Live in Florence and work in Central Oregon - a long story on that issue! Currently have an old Balboa 20 that I rebuilt from bare hull. Now have it apart for the winter for 'Refit, version 2'.

Les and Linda,

Wife and I are in Beaverton until 30 Nov. when we head back to our boat in Puerto Rico for the upcoming cruising season. If you get over this way, let us know and we may be able to arrange a meeting to share our thoughts and experiences after 6+ years of cruising.

We had Terry (CF ID: T-Bone) and his wife from Warren, OR, aboard for 10 days a couple of years ago to give them a taste of cruising. We made our way from Ponce, PR, to Roosevelt Roads, taking time along the way to share some memorable experiences with them. (I'm sharing this in case you want references.)

Re: Hello from Oregon, USA

John,

Thanks a million for the invitation. Our timing is not the greatest, Linda and I were in the metro area last weekend and looked at a couple of boats. Of course the design we liked the interior the most, a Morgan OI 41 is not the greatest open water boat ... and that particular boat left allot to be desired as well.

As another fluke of fate ... many years ago I (Les) worked in Columbia County. Seems a million years since I wondered around on the Columbia River.

As a correction to my prior post, Linda works in Florence and I work in Central Oregon. The old Volvo is very familiar with Hwy 126!

From your pics you have a Cat. Thus far we have only been considering a mono hull boat, having never been close to a Cat. Well other than being on the hook near one in Fisherman's Bay in '09. Sounds like more reaserch time ... the list grows by the day!

Thanks again!

Glad to have another Pacific Northwest sailor on CF. If you come up stream on the Columbia send me a PM.

Re: Hello from Oregon, USA

Will do webe, have been planning to throw the little boat it in at Clarkston and go downstream to Astoria. Have only been on the Columbia from Westport to Camas and that was a long time ago.

Re: Hello from Oregon, USA

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here.
Just drove through Florence while touring the coast this last week. I stopped at Winchester Bay to walk the docks and looked over the boats at the dock at Coos Bay. Drove by the docks at Charleston but didn't do any boat searches to see what's good.
There was a boat in Portland on craigslist that would be a very inexpensive cruiser but was a project and needed an engine. Cascade 42 highside. I see the listing is expired but it'll probably pop back up again. Good luck in your research.
kind regards,
