Hello from Oz

Hi All

Been hanging around getting lots of info so thought I should say hello.

Been sailing most of my life but now have to "slow down" due to a variety of physical ailments.

So anyway in the market for a good boat of 34 foot plus (no bigger than 40) for the wife and 2 kids (7 & 10) to sail around on both coastal and maybe a little further afield

Hope to get heaps more advice

James

G'day, mate from the other side of the Tasman. Welcome aboard. All the best with the boat shopping. Cheers.

Welcome aboard James.

There are heaps of good choices in the size range that you mention and it depends on how much spending money you have.

Take a look at the Yachthub website and you will see lots of contenders so that you can come up with a few potentials for further opinions.

I suppose to clarify on boat selection, ideally I would like a classic styled boat you know like the old s& s lines. Some mod cons are good but can be added. I love the look and feel of timber but am not up for a complete rebuild. Fiberglass is to my way of thinking easier to maintain but I have time!

Full keel is preferred but will look at fin as well

Up to 6 ft draught

Rig style is open.

Budget I would say $125k all up

Some of the amercan styles I like eg IP, Morgans etc

An Arends 33 is an option to consider. A solid Swanson design cruising boat. Your price would get one in good condition & features if the family can all fit in. And if you can find an owner willing to part with one.

Thanks rapscallion.

Good suggestions. I have looked at the Arends, not for me, can't exactly say why. I do like the lines of swansons. I do prefer a non raised coachroof with clean lines. I was quite keen on a Frederick Parker in QLD but price is proving an obstacle. It also hasn't moved since po died 12 months ago and that leads to issues potentially.

She is on boat point if you had a thought

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good luck on the search. There are a lot of boats for sale and it seems to be a buyer's market.
kind regards,
