Hello from sunny Baja CA

Hi all, I am new to the forum. I live in Baja CA, MX. I have a little experience sailing sloops, but I will need everyone's advice as I am about to begin restoration on a sailboat that was once beautiful but is now abandoned and no more than a shell. I welcome any and all advice!!!!

Re: Hello from sunny Baja CA

Thanks for the welcome!

I live in the Ensenada area where there are a whole lot of very good tacos to eat. Especially fish tacos!

Re: Hello from sunny Baja CA

Have you read Don Casey's "This Old Boat"? It won't help you diagnose much, but it is helpful for helping you figure out the how to's once you identify what projects need done.

The first step, if you have the space, is to take everything out of the boat, so that you know what you have. I am so glad we did this because we found an open bag of rice and a handful of crackers - luckily, no bugs on them! Since ours wasn't a total refit, we also deep cleaned everything, scrubbed the bilges, etc.

Start a list of projects. Prioritize them by what keeps the boat afloat, safe, sailing, and finally comfy. Also, make a list of what projects involve tearing the same cabinet apart so that you only have to do it once.

Will you be working on the water or on the hard, initially?

Re: Hello from sunny Baja CA

Hi! Thanks for the advice. I will be working on the water initially, but I will have to get her out soon to evaluate the hull and do any needed repairs.
Most of the work will be done on the water though.

¡Hola Clara! and welcome to the forum. Ensenada's harbor has changed a lot over the past few years. I'm glad to hear that you have a place to work on your boat in the water. I'm interested in hearing about your progress. Any photos?
