Hello from the DR

Just signed up and looking forward to learning a lot. My husband (John) and I (Vicky) are in the Dominican Republic with our 34' Morgan. We will be sailing Accolade to Florida and will be looking for information regarding fees, regulations etc. for the trip. Currently John is running a shrimp farm outside of Barahona.

Hello John and Vicky, We olso have just signed up. We live in western Canada. We keep our boat at Westland Marina, Titusville, FL. The rates are good, and the staff and fellow boaters are very friendly. It has a great do it yourself yard with a couple carry lifts and storage on the hard. Check out thier web site.Westland Marina In Titusville, Florida - Near Cape Canaveral, Port Canaveral, Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach We hope to visit the DR this fall/spring. Great sailing, Wayne & Marilyn

Welcome aboard, Vicky. Plenty of Florida members here. You should be able to get tons of great advice.

We stayed at Puerto Plata for repairs in Ocean World Marina. (809-970-3373) concierge@oceanworldmarina.com Great place with a little Aquarium where you can swim with dolphins etc. The people there were friendly and helpful. Good facilities with a Casino. A fun place to stay is Casa de Campo in La Romana. It is like a spanish village. Punta Cana is nice too with resorts everywhere.

We came in at Luperon and cleared customs there. I didn't like it - dirty, corrupt, however many people sit out the Hurricane season there.

loved Luperon

But it was several years ago. Typical DR/third world issues. But Luperon was pretty low key. Spent 5 weeks there. Kind of like Baja in the 80's...
