Hello from the Puget Sound

Hello,

I am new to the forum and a novice sailor. I am looking forward to learning more and getting to know you all better.

I currently own a 26 ft McGregor but divorce is forcing the sell of that boat. Which is fine, I am now beginning the adventure as a single mom of 1, 5 and 7 y.o. kids. I am looking forward to finding a new boat. My goal is to move aboard in 3 years and cruise the coast to Chile in 8 years.

Hi KCH:

Sorry it has taken so long for anyone to welcome you aboard. Sounds like a nice dream. Good luck with it. This is a great place to gain info that will be useful to you in fufilling your dream.

Aloha KCH,
Welcome aboard! Sorry for the loss of the McGregor. You are really in a great area in which to find a replacement. My experience with the Puget Sound is via Navy and a sail that started in Hawaii and ended at Bremerton aboard my old Mariner Ketch. I really like the Wooden Boat Festival at Port Townsend too.
Kind regards,
JohnL

Aaahhh... The PT Wooden Boat festival and living in Poulsbo is what first turned my eye towards sailing a few years back. Although I don't have the knowledge or courage to own a wooden boat they certainly are beautiful.

I am sure you don't miss the rain here in the NW.

Aloha Kerry,
I had friends living in Poulsbo in the mid 80s. Beautiful little town! I really liked walking the docks, main street and the shops.
The rain there is different than my rain here. We average 120" a year but it is intermittent with gobs of sunshine so easier to put up with.
I won't own another wood boat because of the constant maintenance but they certainly are one of humankind's most beautiful creations.
Good luck to you. Summer is coming, you know - August and September!
