Boat: Building a sail cat (research stage)
Hello, there

I’m working toward eventually living aboard a 50ft (ish) cat.

I spent a lot of time looking in the commercial market and never really found exactly what I want out of a cruising home. The things that come close are marketed to the luxury crowd, which is quite out of my price range. I can, however, build what I want myself. Eventually.

I’ve spent a lot of time at sea, but always as a part of a team, and not under sail. So I also need to learn to sail while I learn how to build a boat for single-hand, occasionally trans-oceanic, operation.

I have about 5 years until I can leave the team-sport occupation, so the goal is to put that time to good use; figuring out the 1.5 million decisions, getting started, getting finished, and all of the stuff in between. Also learning to sail. Not too late to retreat to power, where I’m safe!

Hi, there, Somanysparrows,

Is your location West Australia + the US, or Washington State, US? Sorry, it was unclear to me.

Learning to sail should be fun.

Good luck with your catamaran dream.

Ann
