Boat: Looking for small cat
Posts: 3
Hi, a New Cat Sailor Joins the Forum

I am looking for a small catamaran to live aboard and cruise the Bahamas first then later when more experienced down to the Caribbean. I have been crewing around the world (the warm parts!) for a few years and now want my own boat. I only have a small budget ($50,000 Max - less is better) and want to re power with an electric motor so that has to be included. I have been looking at Prout Ranger 27, Prout Quest 31 (rare to find one in my budget) and Catalac. Any feedback from owners of these cats would be gratefully received. I am going to single hand so ease of sailing is important. I am an artist/Pilates teacher/Massage therapist who likes a simple life so just want a self sufficient boat with solar, wind, electric power. Any ideas on electric motors would be appreciated too. I have read the thread and done lots of internet research but find it hard to find what my options are for a small cat that may already be powered with an outboard. Can I just repower with an electric motor, or do I need to change to inboard? I will also post on the electric motor thread. Thanks everyone, and its great to read all the information on the forum.

Welcome to Cruisers Forum.

Use yachtworld to do a search for sailing, multi-hull, min price 10,000 max price 50,000. There's about a hundred to keep you looking. Here is one that I thought looked nice.

If you want to go electric i know someone with an electric outboard and there great i think the brand was thor quedo ? or something along those lines.its good as it would mean minimum changes from petrol outboard apart from a healthy battery bank and solar /wind charging hopes this helps cheers andy

Thanks to everyone who posted suggestions. They are gratefully received. I was off internet for a while here in France, now back on line so can continue my research.
