Hi all...living in NYC in the middle of a 3 yr transition to the BVIs

Nice forum, nice folks...come look me up down south if you get the chance. You can look me up on City Island also if you like but my boat is already in the BVIs. I'm playing catch up!

New Bern...I've driven through there

What a nice place for a cat
Have you been there long? Are there many cats in there?

Answering for Entlie (she is my Admiral).

We moved here early 2004 and try to spend our winters on the boat further south including 3 trips to the Bahamas so far. We are gearing up to head south again about mid November.

The number of cats in this area is on the rise but monos are still the major part of the boat population. The Neuse River here is wide and good for day sailing. We are in easy reach of more interesting sites along the Pamlico Sound and the Outer Banks. Only about 20 miles down to the ICW and from there, easy access to Beaufort Inlet.

Is our boat in charter at this time?

George

Hi Sunspot Baby

Yes, I'm in charter. It was the only way we could afford the boat at the time. There are several negatives to chartering but the plus is we have a boat to move onto in a year or so. I'm going down to Tortola next week to do some work on the boat. We have a few issues that require some personal attention, unfortunately.
We have an older boat a 1982 Dufour 35 that is on the hard in Beaufort. We were on our way to Tortola almost 2 yrs ago, ran into some mechanical problems, ran out of vacation time, so there she sits. We are trying to get her to Ft lauderdale in November and then to Tortola through the Bahamas in the spring. We can live on her while the other is in charter and then store our extra stuff when we move onto our cat. It's a plan although a bit complicated. Whatever happened to keep it simple?

Anyway, three trips to the bahamas, that's great. I chartered a boat there about 20 years ago. I'm looking forward to getting back.
How long did it take you to get there? Where did you cross the stream?

Best Regards, Joe
