Greetings from Johannesburg (-1000 fathoms).

I stumbled on CF a week ago, as I'm starting to look around for a boat. There appears to be a lot of experience here that I hope to tap into. In my youth (70's and 80's), I had to rely on the Point and Royal Cape yacht club bars for advice, and that probably led me to being a wooden boat owner for 20+ years.

On sober reflection, I need to now look for a glass or alu boat, although I could still be tempted by cold mould. I hope my wife doesn't see that.

It looks as if I'll also need to learn to cruise with new fangled systems like roller furling, GPS and Sailmail.

I look forward to meeting some of you at sea level before too long.
