Re: Hi everyone, we're building a boat!

we have a nice wordplay in German, that unfortunately translate somewhat crookedly into English:
"Not what is told suffices, what has been achieved counts!"
("Nicht das Erzählte reicht, das erreichte zählt"!)
So ridiculous, bragging about "what great deeds one will be doing"...
Is this a sign of the times, & is it just I that objects?

The American equivalent is..."The road to hell is paved with good intentions".

We have a saying in america... Those who can't criticise.. we have another.. small dogs nip at the heals of those who accomplish..

Both of those are paraphrased but.. i think you critics get the point..

A guy named Clyde ES thinks you folks are hillarious

When you have actually built a sizeable vessel yourself then you'll be in a position to comment.

Claims it was built by one man.
Other videos show workers there helping.

I did my apprenticeship building 100+ ft aluminium vessels
They took about 3 years to build
With about 50 other workers.
But this guy reckons he fit it by himself in 5?

Hi everyone, we're building a boat!

This is not about negative Criticism. Anyone who has major boat projects like I have knows the huge time sink that it involved never mind the costs. Also I appreciate the tools needed and the skills. I mean I have shed with scoring saws ( needed to work veneers ) joiners planer and a spindle moulder etc. I have mig and tig machines and I did a certified welding course to learn how to do it properly.

So I wish anyone well. But venturing into a snake pit needs snake anti venom not simply enthusiasm.

so rtw-ing a 34'cat I built in my early 20s (&2 &1/3 subsequent rtws) counts me among the "sad old losers", a "small dog nipping at the heals(heels!) of those who accomplish.."? Well, so be it!

Re: Hi everyone, we're building a boat!

I have built two steel sailboats, 30ft and 34 foot, from the ground up and restored multiple f/g boats. So yes, I reserve the right to criticize, talkers. Each project I have done, including the one I am doing now and the one on my ranch that is for sale, I have done without fanfare. I didn't come here telling everyone what I was going to do. Instead asking question to the group opinions during the process.

Or, as my ex once said of someone who bragged on sexual exploits,

"Much talk. Little do."

A discussion forum , is just that , talk. If you dont want your “ pet “ desires held up to scrutiny , well DONT POST.

If you do post on a public forum have very thick neck and be prepared for a roasting

Re: Hi everyone, we're building a boat!

aahh, yes, & if I remember my English lessons correctly there is the phrase
"...we are having a boat built..." - might this describe the "project" better?
