Hi From Auckland NZ

I have been following this site for a couple of months now - what a great treasure trove of info and advice!

As for me, I've been sailing on and off for the best part of 40 years - racing dinghies and cruising keelers - mostly in NZ but also UK, Hong Kong and Qatar. Have one offshore passage to Fiji under my belt and thirsting for more.

Current project is refitting a 1970's era Chico 30 for some ocean adventures. She's a bit on the small side but reasonably bulletproof and a proven passage maker in her heyday.

Here's to fair winds ...

Re: Hi From Auckland NZ

Hi, did my first "ocean" race on a Chico 30 called "Chubasco" when I was 15. What an adventure! Auckland to Gisboure seemed like such a long way.. Fond memories of a wonderful little boat, and a great crew. Say hi to my brother boo boo on "sunfast racing" if you bump into him and his rabble...

Re: Hi From Auckland NZ

A Chico 30 in good nick is capable boat :-)
The cost to get to NZ Cat one for offshore will be quite high though - I'd suggest you get a local inspector involved as soon as you can. That will make it easier to get thru with the minimum possible cost.
I sent you a PM pointing to some local NZ resources.
Good luck with your project, and let me know if you need any help sourcing anything you need.
Cheers
Matt

Reply to Jim Cate: Chico 30 is a Gary Mull design.
To: Neptune's Gear: yep, I'm under no illusion as to what it costs to get to Cat 1!

Hi Sails Rock. Looks like you are Auckland based... My wife and I are in Dunedin but have just bought a Cav 39 is at Bayswater. We need to rerig it and antifouling before sailing it south at Christmas. Coulsdon you recommend a good rigger and haul out facility? We're discovering auckland riggers are around 30% dearer than what we'd pay down South. ..but are stuck having to sort it before tripping south.
