Hi from chilly Connecticut!

Hi everyone,

I recently (like last friday) retired (somewhat early) from a nearly 40 year career in media and tech. My husband and I have been sailing for 17 years off the coast of New England, first on our Maine Cat 30, and recently upgrading to a Seawind 1160 so that we can live aboard for weeks or months at a time. This is a new thing for me, joining a forum. But now that I have the time and as we plan for our adventures I'm interested in learning from and connecting with folks that know more than me. I hope I can contribute as well!

It feels strange to not have a job. But, as a good friend once told me: "Life is short. Buy the shoes".

Re: Hi from chilly Connecticut!

Welcome to retirement- and the forum.

Soon you will wonder how you found the time to hold down a full time career…

In honor of retiring, it is worth sharing one of many cruising related songs by Eileen Quinn [cruising sailor, songwriter, musician] ‘My Old Job’…

Enjoy your new shoes…

Cheers, Bill

My wife has that sign in her bathroom “ life is short, buy the shoes” and she acts as though it’s a religious guide.

It’s chilly in Florida too.

That’s me, penguin boy or penguin rider depending on your preference.

Give yourself time to adjust. And start downsizing if you plan on moving aboard.

Re: Hi from chilly Connecticut!

Most people have a problem adjusting to being retired.

After 6 months, you'll find you'll need an extra 12 hours of daylight to do all the stuff you wanna do for the day.
