Hi there all

Just a quick note to say hi. I've been reading these forums for some time and have gotten a lot of good info, thanks. Decided it's time to get more actively involved now that the house has sold and we're moving onboard full time in May. I'll have lots of questions no doubt.
I've been a mechanic/ DC electrical guy my whole working life. Diesel engines my specialty, marine included, though did a long stint in the aircraft world as a A&P mechanic. Just sold my business (to family) of the last 14 years working heavy diesel, welding and equipment repair from our facility and 3 service trucks running all over the pacific northwest, a lot of military work in addition to fleets, boat repair etc. etc. so if you've got some questions re these things that would be fine.

We sailed to Hawaii and back in 2013, took 3 months and loved every second of it. Are currently gearing up for inside passage to AK then on towards Mexico in Sept or Aug from Puget sound, we'll see from there I suppose. Anyway HI THERE YA ALL.
Joe

Re: Hi there all

Hi there, Joe! welcome to CF. Most people do a quiet cruise in the Caribbean, but you are going for an Inside Passage. That's really cool. Please post about your trip. On your way to Mexico, if you plan any coastal hopping, I hope you and the family will stop in that little bay about halfway down to say hello.

Re: Hi there all

Gamayun, how cool to call SF Bay, "that little bay about halfway down."

At first I thought you meant Maria Bay in Baja!

Anyhow, Joe Kiernan, Welcome Aboard, and have a blast with your cruising. It sounds like a good plan to me, with shape-shifting partially planned in, which is always good.

Enjoy!

Ann

Re: Hi there all

Thanks for the welcome aboard! Little bay eh Gamayun? I'm thinking nothing too little about that bay! Hear the winds can be quite the hoot. Thank you for your more than kind offer to stop and say hi.

A question I've got (and is this the right forum to ask it?) is my insurance company wanting lay up/over plans for hurricane season while cruising mexico and points south. How the dickens am I supposed to know, never having sailed there before? We don't have any really set itinerary, anyone with good lay over marinas, availability, aprox costs etc? Or where I might go to look these things up?
