I Finally Wore Him Down ! :)

After years of hinting, begging, pleading, bribery, ect my husband finally caved and we bought our first sailboat! We just purchased it a couple days ago. Its a 1984 Jeanneau 27 and we are still in the processing of naming her.

We live in the Seattle neighborhood of Fremont and are so excited to finally be a real part of the boating community!

Oh I should add we are very novice sailors so if anyone in the Seattle area fancies a sail and wants to offer a bit of advice or instruction it's welcomed!

We have sailed with our family on their Passport 40 and also crewed a 88 ft wooden Tug Boat from Seattle to Mexico, so we know a fair bit, but just haven't sailed too much completely on our own.

He is excited too, just took some prodding to take the plunge.

I'm pretty sure he is happy with his decision, because he has been to every second hand boating shop near us and West Marine twice in today.

Thanks for checking tho

Go Girl!!! Now, check out the threads called "Admirals" and "Couples co-captains" for lots of pointers on how to keep him in line.

A word of advice: "never smile till christmas". Hang on, no, that's what my mentor advised me for teaching, not sailing. Let me think..... Oh yeah "Start mean, then you can ease off - but you can't go back the other way". Nope, that's not it. Um. I can't think of any advice I was ever actually given when we bought our first boat together.

But my own advice would be: "Open your legs when your pleased, and purse your lips when you're not". (I just made it up, so I'm not sure if it's very good advice, tho)

Ah Kate, Eve made that up, but maybe not quite in those words.

Well done shaunab,
I have the opposite problem,in that the wife isn't so keen on the rough and tumble of true sailing, which rather curtails my future aspirations, but we'll work something out.
Enjoy the good times.
