Aloha and welcome aboard!
I'm not familiar with that design. Photos would be great. Congratulations on the "new" boat.

Thank you everyone for your hearty welcome.

I expect to settle next week so the only photos I have right now are from the seller's advertisement. See link ...
http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-...ailer-27/72092

Sellers are very decent guys. When slipped for a hull inspection they cleaned and anti-fouled the hull just 'cause they could. (we did get to inspect prior to anti-fouling). Very nice intro to sailing so far (I'm sure there will be "moments" ahead of me where I'll be struggling).

More info on SS27 from the association

Very nice looking craft. She looks roomy below for a 27.

Settled on Wednesday and went for "first sail" this afternoon (Friday). Gentle breezes, no swell and a quiet beer with my friend and co-owner as the sun set across the bay. Magic! The first day of the rest of my life.

Cooking up plans to sail from Perth to Albany (4 days south of Perth on Southern Ocean), take family for sails around King George Sound, then couple more days on to Esperance and explore the Recherché Archipelago. Then come all the way back. Might be a year or two before we are kitted up and experienced for that but the idea has formed.

Re: I Got a Boat !

Congratulations Henry and wish you well with the new boat.

The Spacesailor 27 is a great design - like a big brother of the Spacesailor 24 - both from the board of Kim Swarbrick who had a knack of squeezing a lot into the boats he designed. The brialliant thing is both carry a lot of space below (hence the names) but both also sail really well.

There were not very many 27's built and they used to be always in high demand. Had a couple of pals who owned two and despite being built for family cruising, neither were slouches around the race track either.

We built one of Kims later designs, a Swarbrick 9.7 around 1993/4. I am not sure how that fleet developed since we left WA in 1996, but it was more of a one design offshore race boat with cruising possible on the side. Almost the reverse of the Spacy 27.

Anyway, well done. Enjoy sailing her.

Cheers
JOHN

I was foredeck on a racing S97 for several seasons and enjoyed some great trips.

Having experienced the fun side of sailing I'm now completing my initiation ... got a leak in the stern tube and boat's up on the hard. Still in the "honeymoon period" and taking it all as part of boating (just hope I don't get too many of these sorts of leaks).
Grin!
