Info on Islander Freeport 41’s?!?

Hello all!!

I just bought a 1978 Islander Freeport 41 here in Honolulu, HI. I upgraded big time from my last boat (1989 Capetown Boatyards Lello 34) and am super excited about this new and HUGE project.

The new boats name is “pulelo” and has been around the Hawaiian islands the past 20 or so years.

She is a little rough around the edges but I think with some serious elbow grease and about 20k in upgrades, she can be back to her beautiful self.

I’m looking for anyone with knowledge and expertise on these boats. I know there are only a few of them left out of 34 ever built? So much stuff going on on this boat it’ll make your head spin.

Eventually looking to outfit her for extended inter-Hawaiian Island travel and then beyond! (Tahiti, line islands, Cook Islands, etc...)

Any and all help/knowledge would be amazing!!!

Here are her specs and some photos.

She’s a Ketch Rig
LOA- 41’. (More like 47’ with bow sprit)
LWL- 32.50’
Beam- 13.17’
Displacement- 22000lbs
Ballast- 7000lbs
Power- Perkins 4.236 diesel. (80ish HP)?
Rigged for 7 points of sail.

Howdy and Welcome Aboard CF!

Those boats have some fans, and some detractors, as do most boats.

Here are some previous discussions about the Islader Freeport Boats. Dig into these archived threads. Go back several pages on the link list if needed.

After 8 years on a 36' Bayfield, I too am interested in an Islander Freeport. Hoping you post frequently about your "new boat" experience.

Re: Info on Islander Freeport 41’s?!?

I realize this thread is a few years old, but as it comes up on most google searches for Islander Freeport 41s, thought it wise to share the web-site of the Islander Freeport 41 Owners' Group site:

https://groups.io/g/IslanderFreeport41

This group site has a ton of information about the vessels, projects, how-to, and owners' experiences. Several members have circumnavigated and others are still sailing the world, doing coastal cruising, and some liveaboards.
