Introductions

I just found this site while cruising Noonsite. I am very much interested because I am starting to understand that to chat and help each other is one of the best ways to continue on land what we do at sea.

By way of introducitons,
My name is Andy. Sometimes Captain Andy.

2 years ago I rebuilt an old Ferro - cement sloop just south of the city of Bangkok. I then sailed it for 8 months covering many of the island chains in the Gulf of Siam and in the process cutting my teeth in the cruising world. I then "solo"ed down the east coast of Malaysia (without any autopilot) during the Iraq War. Great Stuff.

I am now planning on taking my boat, Wind Spirit, out into the Indian Ocean. I am looking at a 9 to 12 month tour of the Northern and Southern Indian Ocean. I know that I am taking on a large challenge but I feel ready for it.

I am now in the states working as a firefighter putting together money for the journey as well as buying equipment and laying out general voyage plans.

I must admit that I am going to throw out a lot of questions but I will also work on answering the questions that I can with the experience I have.

I built a webpage which shows most of my travels thus far. The address is "www.cptandysboat.com" Please check it out if you like.

Hopefully I will be talking with many of you already on this site, sooner than later.
Andy

Hi Andy. I was a ferro owner for 10 years. A 60' Ketch "Blue Dolphin" out of Long Beach CA. Just sold due to a divorce. Now have a WestSail 32 and headed to the Florida Keys. I will check out your site. Good luck and Fair Winds. SundownSkipper

Hi Andy. Cant call mine a footpath, the hull is too thin (3/8ths inch) But 40 year old ferro she is. 30 foot and 3.5 tons all up. Have had five years of fun for the price of what most people would have spent on beer. It is suprising just how many ferro boats are out cruising considering that they where all going to blow into tiny little rust encrusted flakes!! Know of a 55 footer with a complete ready to go fitout (needs antifoul and minor paint) sold for Aus $5000 , Dont reckon its possible to have as much fun for so little with anything else. Cheers Martin
